How to Write a Novel

Posted: under General Interest.

There are many ways you can make money writing. You can make money writing books, you can make money writing for the web, you can make money writing articles, make money writing online… the list goes on and on.

To get paid to write directly (like, write and get paid right away) there are three options. You can either write by direct contract, just selling what someone wants and orders, or you can write private label rights (PLR) materials and sell these as packages or you can use your writing skills to make money in your own Internet Marketing business.

Any of these methods will work and they are not mutually exclusive. You can, of course, learn how to write a novel and then publish and sell that novel. This is more chancy; higher risk, higher potential reward.

You take a course in writing, get yourself a book of creative writing tips and learn everything you can about what it takes to make a novel successful. You learn what sells and what doesn’t. You study the novel-writing trade.

Then you work on your novel for a month or two, until you can produce a final manuscript.

Then you make the rounds of publishers untill you find one that is interested in publishing and promoting your work. If you are successful you could make a lot of money, like John Grissom or J.K. Rawlings. If no one likes your work you come up empty-handed.

But don’t be discouraged! Few authors hit the jackpot with their first novel. Learn from your mistakes and try again!

Search Engine Optimization

Posted: under General Interest.

Search Engine Optimization

Sure, you can do Pay Per Click. (Got lotsa money? Ready to spend $2-$5-$10 for every visitor?)

Sure you can do Yellow Page advertising. (Really, who can afford that?)

You can do Radio and TV. (Ha! As if any of us can afford that)

You can go stand on a corner downtown and hand out cards with your website on them. (That’s probably as effective as those ideas mentioned above!)

So, what do you do?

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization! That’s right. Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Time and time again, week after week, month after month, year after year… it always comes back to SEO.

Why SEO? Why search engine optimization? Because it works.

Why do more and more companies (big and small) choose this method?

it works because, with your site properly optimized, you’re there when people are looking for you.

Let’s say you’re in Dallas and you’re a plumber. If you’ve done TV ads or radio ads, you have to hope that your ad comes on and the exact moment that someone’s pipes have burst or their toilet is backed up.

If not, that is if they don’t see a TV ad or hear a radio ad (remember, that they’ll hear yours only if you can afford the exorbidant amounts of money to afford such ads), what will they do?

Most likely they’ll go online, to Google, AOL, MSN or Yahoo to look for you.

Sure, they might go to the Yellow Pages. That is if they don’t mind how dirty their hands will be. And if they don’t mind trying to decide between 100 different plumbers. (Should I go with the one with the full page ads? They’re probably too expensive! How about one of these little ones? Who knows if they’re any good?

More and more, people are going to their favorite search engine.

They’ll go there and search for ‘plumber in Dallas’ or ‘Dallas plumber’ or ‘fix pipes in Dallas’.

Search Engine Optimization

And, if your site is properly optimized, by a professional, and you come up on the first page of Google (or one of the other popular engines mentioned earlier), they may click on your site. Then, your site can sell them and, hopefully, get them to make the call!

You know how much better your site can sell them than whatever size of Yellow Page ad you can afford can sell them.

So, how do you find a good SEO company.

Look for one:

  1. that has been in business for a long time (GSEP.COM has been in business since 1995)
  2. that you can trust (GSEP.COM is a member of the BBB and the BBBOnline).
  3. that spells out clearly what you’re buying. Some companies, many in fact, say things like “You’ll be happy with our service” or “We’ll do a great job” or “We’re the best”. GSEP.COM guarantees, in writing, as part of the contract, top 10 rankings in Google, MSN, Yahoo and AOL. Guaranteed. In writing.

Doesn’t GSEP.COM sound like who you need? Don’t they sound like they’re who you should contact for your search engine optimization needs?

They are. Visit the site and call them. You’ll be glad you did!

How to Secure Low Rates on Your Merchant Account Services

Posted: under General Interest.

In this day and age of instant access, one of the first things a new business will want to think about is getting themselves set up to process credit cards.  In order to get the most out of your new Point-of-Sale Terminal, you have to take a few steps to ensure that you’re getting great terms, services, and offers available in our current marketplace.  Because competition runs so high in this market, you have the ability to get great deals at the lowest fees.

Your first step in in choosing which company to go with by comparing the options of two or three of the top merchant account companies.  If you like something about one company, but someone else’s annual fees are lower, don’t be afraid to share this information with your first choice.  Chances are that they will match this price, or maybe even offer 10% less.  Most Merchant Account Companies will go out of their way to bring you in as their customer.

Before making any decisions, make sure you read everything there is to know about what you’re getting into.  Though each Payment Processing Provider may be close in their transaction fees, make sure to look for things such as minimum payments, annual fees, and statement fees.  These are the things to look for when choosing the best merchant account.  Another thing to remember is that Credit Card Terminals are not as expensive as many people believe them to be and you don’t have to lease a machine in order to get your merchant account.  In Canada, credit card machines can be bought outright for anywhere around 900-1500 dollars depending on hardware and warranty conditions.

Once you’ve made your final decision and have begun the application process, there are a few things to keep in mind.  First of all, you will have to give an estimation on your monthly credit card totals, and an average dollar amount per credit card sale.  These are very important numbers and an excessive over-estimate or under-estimate could cause your merchant account to be terminated.  Talk to your provider and they’ll be more than happy to help you come up with something you can both work toward.

As you begin accepting credit cards, there are a few more things to keep in mind.  Certain cards carry a higher rate charge than others, and there is really nothing you can do about this.  However, there are ways of preventing other higher rates charges.  For example, you need to make sure you clear you credit card batch every day.  Failure to do so can end up costing you a lot of money.  Also, if for some reason a customer requests a chargeback on their card, you have a limited amount of time to dispute this action.  If you do nothing about the situation when it comes up, it can become quite expensive for you and your account may even be terminated.

If you take your time and do a little research, you should have no trouble getting the best Merchant Account available.  By following these few guidelines and paying close attention to your monthly Merchant Service Bills, you will soon be running a very successful business.

The Importance of Effective Website Design

Posted: under General Interest.

In a highly competitive market, it is crucial for every business to have a presence on the web and the design of the website is vital to its success. The internet is usually the first place that potential clients look when searching for a business to meet their requirements. A well designed, clearly presented and informative website will result in the correct first impression.

Often businesses think that the cost of high quality website design will be prohibitive. While increasing numbers of business people are gaining a clearer understanding of a good website and its advantages, to a lot of people it just seems too expensive and complex an option. However, it is possible to design and develop a quality bespoke website from as little as a few hundred pounds. This can pay for itself time and time again in the increased revenue that it can produce for the business.

In addition to website design, a professional company will also be able to offer SEO or search engine optimisation services. It is well known that potential customers will not usually look past the first page of results produced by a search engine, so it is important to ensure that the website promoting your business will be included on the first page of the search results for your target key phrases.

You should aim for well designed and structured web pages and use keywords in the text that you think your customers would search for. In general, sites with plenty of content have been shown to perform better in search engine results, and it is important to achieve the correct balance between search engine results and designing website pages that are easy to read and navigate. However, the single greatest factor in determining your rankings in the search engines will be the amount and quality of incoming links that your site has pointing to it.

For a website to be a successful marketing and selling tool, both the website design and how it is marketed are important things to consider. Making sure that the site is optimised for SEO and obtaining quality one way links from relevant sites are all factors that will help to ensure the success of your website and business. A professional website design company has the design skills and online marketing expertise to create a site that will be an effective marketing tool for years into the future.

Finding Effective Acupuncture Treatment Plan

Posted: under General Interest.

Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment, regardless of the fact that there isn’t always a scientific explanation for why that is. Chinese acupuncture is far different from any practices used in Western medicine and relies on the location of meridians, which are energetic areas of the body that correspond to the organs. Needles are inserted in certain points of the body in order to replenish energy where it is lacking, drain energy where it is in excess, and promote the free flow of energy where it is stagnated.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of health problems including depression, hormonal imbalance, obesity, arthritis, and injuries. An acupuncturist will come up with a highly individualized acupuncture treatment plan after meeting you and examining you carefully. An acupuncturist will look at your tongue, check your pulse, and ask you many questions prior to deciding on the points on your body where needles will be inserted. The tongue and pulse are very important diagnostic tools in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Your acupuncturist will examine the color of your tongue as well as its coating. Different parts of the tongue correspond to different meridians and parts of the body. Pulse diagnosis is more difficult to use but it is more meridian-specific than tongue diagnosis.

Most acupuncture treatment plans will last 8 to 10 weeks depending on the condition being treated. The more treatments you get the better but it is typical to go in about once or twice a week. In between visits you will probably take herbs as a complementary therapy. One acupuncture session will last around thirty minutes but probably amount to about an hour when you count how long it takes to have the consultation each time.

Needles will be inserted into different parts of your body and perhaps combined with massage and moxibustion. Moxibustion consists of burning the herb mugwort on the skin so the heat penetrates the area. There is indirect and direct moxibustion. The latter is far less common because it can be painful and burn the skin. Indirect moxibustion is very effective but the herb is removed prior to it burning the skin so it is a better option.

In conclusion, acupuncture treatment plans will vary from person to person and condition to condition but the general process is the same no matter what. Acupuncture is a very effective treatment that is also very relaxing. It can serve as a primary treatment or complementary treatment for many health conditions. Talk to an acupuncturist to find out how you too can benefit from acupuncture and design an acupuncture treatment plan that is just right for you.

How To Overhaul Your Golf Swing

Posted: under General Interest.

Keep your Golf Swing Simple and keep practicing.

The key to a good golf swing is consistency. If you can’t hit the ball the same way each and every single time, then you will not improve your golf game. Problems such as lack of distance, slicing, hooking, and many other golf ball flight problems are caused by lack of consistency. Therefore, you are to achieve consistency by improving your golf swing. The only way for your body to do the same thing in the same way is to train it, and train it well.

Basic Golf Swing Fundamentals

The best thing to do with your golf swing is to reduce unnecessary movements. Think of it as energy conservation, since all of your energy is supposed to be focused on hitting the ball and not wasted on awkward movements that cause slicing and other problems in the first place. Get back to the basics and incorporate only the movements needed to hit the ball dead center. This should lower your handicap by 7-12 strokes in no time. With more practice, you will will be playing par golf or better every single time. However, that is only if you learn the proper practice drills, to improve all areas of your golf game.

Golf lessons

To learn more about the golf swing, the most obvious thing is to receive instruction in an actual golf class. These classes would have equipment and instructors that can help you achieve perfection as long as you have the determination, discipline, and money to do it. Enrolling in such classes does require a fee, so you do need to be earning quite a bit before you can actually think of getting into it. However, you can learn a lot if you do some online research.

Golf Information Online

There are very good golf websites on the internet, where you can find some golf instruction for golf game improvements. This is quite convenient, but the information gathered can be quite conflicting. As there are many different ways to hit a golf ball, experts are divided in what is the best way to improve your golf swing. Your job in this is to find out what is best for you. Every golfer has a different body, so not everyone can adhere to the same swing. By being able to adjust to your body shape, you can improve your golf swing, without getting angry, or frustrated.

Create a shade for your dogs while traveling

Posted: under General Interest.

Here’s a good idea for when you’re traveling with your dog or dogs. I have often taken road trips from Kansas to Minnesota, and from Kansas to Colorado, and I like to take my two mutts with me, in the back seat.

I find they’re a lot happier when they don’t have the sun shining down on them. If they get too hot, they pant and pant and move around and try to get some shade. So I devised a doggie shade for my car.

I got one of those pliable, lightweight windshield shades — the kind that folds down into a small circle. I use some clothesline cord or something similar, and I thread it back and forth a few times between the head rests in the front seat to the buttons above the back seat that allow the seat to fold down. You can usually find some kind of peg or button or head rest to wrap around from front to back.

The window shade then just rests on top of the “webbing” that I just created. The webbing doesn’t have to be overly tight or strong, since the window shade is very lightweight. This blocks the sun from the dogs, and they sleep a lot better that way. It also keeps them from looking out the window all the time, wondering what’s going on out there. It seems to keep them calmer.

It’s very quick and easy, and is certainly inexpensive. After the trip, it’s very easy to take it down and put away. It’s been an excellent solution for my dogs. They love to travel with me, and I love having them along.

For more ideas about dog care, visit my site, Love-Those-Doggies. I have information about dog training, grooming, walking, pet boarding, etc.

I hope you find this information helpful. I know it has helped my dogs be a lot more comfortable when they travel with me. And they’re so much fun to be around on my visits back home with family.

History of a Successful Family Owned Business

Posted: under General Interest.

Atlas Floors San Antonio was founded in 1948 by World War II veteran William E. Mahone, fulfilling a war-time dream of owning his own business. With the help of a Reconstruction Finance Corporation loan of $1600, Bill and his wife Laura opened a new flooring business in a rented building in Downtown San Antonio, Texas.

The Mahones borrowed a sum of $1,145.80 in order to relocate in a combination business and home, on Hildebrand Avenue. At that location a second generation literally grew up in the business. Current President, Bill Mahone Jr., his mother (Laura), and Jessica and Annie, his sisters, were always involved in the family enterprise. Upon the untimely death of the senior Mahone in 1972, Laura and the second generation continued hands on operation of Atlas Floors in San Antonio Texas.

In 1984, Bill Mahone Jr. took out loans from Hermann Sons in order to build a larger showroom and warehouse at their location in San Antonio. The new facility tremendously increased the original operations size. Keeping step with a city rapidly expanding toward the North, in the year 2000 Atlas Floors opened a second showroom. Shortly thereafter, Atlas Floors joined the largest cooperative in the flooring industry, Carpet One. The relationship has been a huge success, giving this locally owned flooring company the buying power of over 1,000 stores nationwide.

Today, Atlas Floors Carpet One in San Antonio Texas continues as a family owned business under the stewardship of the now three generations of Mahones: Jessica Mahone-McCarthy, Vice President; Laura Mahone-DuBose, Treasurer; Bill Mahone Jr., President; and Billy Mahone III, Marketing Director.

Online revenue Simple Not Easy

Posted: under General Interest.

One of the simplest and most overlooked aspects of online marketing is that it’s not complicated. More precisely, there are a lot of “experts” who try to make it complicated. Aside from whatever motivation they might have to do that online profits happen as the result of one simple equation –

Traffic + Conversion = Sales

– performed over & over again

There are MANY ways to get traffic (visitors) to your site and cause them to take some action or “convert,” which will either result in more leads or (less frequently) result directly in more sales to your business.

So here’s the other simple rule — you only need to master 1 or 2 traffic methods and 1 or 2 conversion methods, and you will make money. You don’t need to master the entire kitchen to make a grilled cheese sandwich, and you don’t need to know EVERYTHING about internet marketing in order to add revenue to your business.

With that in mind, there are a few basic traffic techniques I’ve implemented in some of my sites and client sites that have universally and consistently WORKED. Here are a few of those methods — but remember, you only need to pick one or two:

Increasing Visitor Count

1) Twitter — highly effective for targeting your niche and developing the conversation with your customers and prospects. In fact, it is second to none. However, most businesses don’t know how to use Twitter effectively. They spam with “sales tweets” — “Look at the cool new thing I’m selling.” The 80/20 rule is highly effective — 80% of your tweets should be about something interesting, funny or otherwise engaging… a question of the day like “What’s for lunch?”… anything to get people talking, laughing, thinking… Also, keep it consistent and be generous with re-tweets. A few tweets a day go a long way toward establishing a rabid list of followers. The wrong thing to do is to Tweet like a madman for a day or two and then disappear for a month. Or worse, don’t reply when someone direct messages you or @messages you. That’s like ignoring someone at a dinner party when they ask you to pass the gravy. You WON’T get any dessert.

2) Video marketing — one of the fastest ways to rank your site and get lots of inbound traffic. Keep your videos consistent — don’t show up one day in a baseball cap and dark lighting, talking about the rain, and another day bouncing in a jungle gym screaming about business leads. Consistent message, consistent tone, consistent look & feel. Also, be sure to put a call to action in your video’s description, as well as the full URL of your website’s landing page, and use appropriate keywords.

3) Article marketing is an evergreen method for outstanding traffic generation, with one HUGE caveat — mix it up! Putting the same article on 400 article directories will get you nowhere fast. You will get a bump in traffic from all the inbound links until Google figures out they’re all the same article and basically count it as one link. There are content spinners out there that alter the content of your articles automatically, but you have to be very careful here as well. Most content spinners change a word or two to replace it with a synonym, or they mash up the article randomly so the output is basically junk that cannot be read. It has to pass human review. So if you’re looking for a quality content spinner, ideally you want to be able to change the entire sentence many times throughout the article, and then have it spin those into hundreds of different articles. That’s the professional way to do it. At the bottom of your article, have a call to action in the information field; a blurb about you (the author) and a link to a free guide the reader can pick up at your website.

Conversion

1) Keep it simple. The landing page has to do ONE thing — get people to ACT. For this reason, it’s been called a SINGLE ACTION PAGE. Pear it down to the bare essence of what you need the visitor to do. Consider placing a video on the page with a very simple message, “Hey thanks for stopping by for my free whizbang. Just type in your first name and e-mail address and I will rush it right over to you. In just a moment after you send your information, you’ll get an e-mail with a confirmation link. Click that link and I will instantly send your free whizbang.”

2) Direct, direct, direct. Notice the video script in #1 above — see how we instructed the user on exactly what they need to do? And then we told them what to expect next, and what they would then need to do. And we closed with a reminder of the benefit — the free whizbang.

If you have trademarked the term “whizbang,” then I apologize in advance. ;)

3) Test, test, test. ALWAYS have two versions of your landing page operating at one time. You can optimize your landing page using freely available Google tools in the Web Optimizer toolbox. You really can’t go on “gut” here — the data will be you every single time. Even on PPC ads, we have literally seen the addition of a question mark in the ad increase conversion by 16.8% So test, test, test.

Conclusion

These methods work on any business in any industry. Here is some social proof –

Local landscape designer increased her traffic by 7,342% (yes seven thousand percent)

  • Local artist went from three visitors a day to an average of 41 visitors a day
  •

  • International digital publisher had zero e-commerce and started converting 16% of all traffic to revenue within 72 hours of implementing one traffic strategy and one conversion strategy
  •

  • Changing a landing page to a simple design on an e-book site turned conversion from an anemic two sales per week to eight sales a day — on the same traffic.
  •

I hope this helps your business. The average business fails to do what it takes to drive traffic or achieve conversions to their website. While they exercise 20-30 traffic methods on average, they don’t do a single one effectively.  There are many sources online to learn about effective marketing strategies, including free resources and some almost-free, like the definitive guidebook  750 Traffic Techniques.

Do-it-for-you solutions are also available; experience guides the appropriate strategy for the website and market. The biggest challenge business owners face is knowing which strategy to implement. Experimentation can be very costly in terms of time and lost sales… The key is to find a reputable marketing firm that offers a full range of customized services as well as downloadable products and courses to assist every website owner at every budget level.

Weeds are like plants – except you don’t want them in your lawn

Posted: under General Interest.

Weeds, like all plants, need sunlight, soil, nutrients, and time to grow back. Unfortunately, weeds do not know how to play fair and want the grass all to themselves and even after you have used landscape fabric, you may still have weeds. You will also see weeds on the rest of your lawn as well and while mowing can help, it will not get down to the root of the problem. This calls for you to get down on your knees and withdraw the roots of the growing weeds.

The weeding activity calls for some protective gear and these include gloves, hat, and a long arm shirt for taking shelter from the sun and a safeguard from handling any poisonous plants, which might be dwelling there. Take along a plastic bag with you to put the weeds into, if you leave them on the lawn, the seeds from them will re-infest the grass. The weeds must be pulled out right from their roots, or else, they would tend to grow back once again. If you find a tough weed, which is difficult to pull, dig the ground a bit and then try once more.

Since weeding is such a boring natural process, many individuals will try to coax their children or the neighborhood children by offering them a little cash for their effort. This is all right so long as you teach the children the art of removing weeds properly, otherwise the money would go to waste. If there are no children available, you should try to remove weeds once a week in order to stay ahead of the new growth because an hour here and there is better than 5 to 6 hours in one setting. The easiest way to weeding is to make the soil wet before the action and doing it early morning or late afternoon using a tiny trowel for the more tenacious weeds preferably before they become too big.

The tips given below are aimed at educating you about things NOT to do after you have assembled all the useless weeds. Do not use them as mulch as this will simply distribute seeds around, killing the purpose of removing weeds in the first place. Do not burn the weeds because they may be poisonous which could cause more harm if inhaled. Never add them to the compost file or try to consume them, as they may be detrimental to health. In case you make the mistake of gathering them in a trashcan, which is situated in the home, you run the risk of the tiny insects that stick to the weeds infesting your household. The right way to discard of them is to put them in a trashcan, which is placed outside the house. Now you can begin removing weeds comfortably since you know how to get them out by their roots, lower their proliferation and get rid of them too.

Mechanical Bulls – Safe and Fun!!!

Posted: under General Interest.

No matter what kind of party you are having a mechanical bull rental is sure to add some excitement. Announce you have this activity available and watch the crowds develop. Many people are curious about just how to ride a mechanical bull. There actually is an art to managing to stay on for any length of time. A lot of a person’s ability to stay on the bull depends on how much experience they have with bull riding and what level the mechanical bull is set at. There are different settings available to adjust the mechanical bull’s speed and/or bucking ability. For an experienced bull rider, crank the settings on high and let them put their experience to test. If you are letting children ride the bull, then put the settings on low and gradually increase to let them feel like they are mastering the art.

You have seen them on television and you have seen them at county fairs; however, it is now time to see a mechanical bull at your next party! Whether you are having a birthday party, graduation party, or a free for all adult party, mechanical bulls will surely increase the fun factor. Mechanical bulls are so much fun you will wonder how parties existed before their creation. They add a great source of entertainment for everyone ages 10 to 100. They are available to rent at different rates depending on the size, style ad availability or you can even purchase one to own.

When you have a mechanical bull rental Philadelphia you do not have to have it set up for competition. You will get hours of fun just watching people laugh as they get jerked around by the bull only to eventually fall. The only problem you face when renting a mechanical bull is, your party attendants may not want to leave when the party is over!

Mechanical bull riding is safe entertainment for all ages. The mechanical bull rental Philly is surrounded by pads or air mattress material. The laughter and fun increases as each person falls to the floor! The bull is set up to jerk and sling around just as a real bull would. The rider must learn to get in position and hold on tight. The longer a person stays on the harder the mechanical bull should start to buck. Eventually the rider must figure out how to get off. Thankfully, in the mechanical bull world there isn’t a bull to stomp back on top of the rider.

Physician Job Search FAQ

Posted: under General Interest.

Q: Should I hire a lawyer to review my physician employment contract?

A: In general, yes. We are not lawyers and do not give legal advice. We have reviewed many contracts and can provide you with feedback as to what we have seen as standard. The choice of a lawyer is critical. Find someone well versed in medical contract law, as well as the state’s laws in which you will practice. Try to find an attorney recommended by someone else. Also, make sure the attorney has enough time to review the contract in a timely manner. Negotiations could be hampered by a slowed response time.

Q: If I am a resident, when should I decide upon accepting a position?

A: As a general rule, the earlier the better. The more time you have to work on license applications, hospital privileges, finding a new home and moving arrangements, the less stress you’ll encounter. Many hospitals recruit for summer positions in the fall and early winter. Don’t think all of the “good” physician jobs are taken by the end of winter. We assist physicians throughout the year because contract expirations occur throughout the year. Don’t worry. Have confidence that the right position will be available. Call us, we are here to help!

Q: Who handles negotiations, me or my recruiter?

A: Whenever possible, your recruiter should handle negotiations for physician practice opportunities. Having a liaison reduces the potential for heated arguments between two parties. Keep in mind, professional recruiters regularly perform this task.

There are always boutiques that offer clothes which in their eyes are out of fashion, therefore selling at a cheaper price. However, you may not feel that that particular dress is out of fashion, which will result in a great deal. If you have a relative or friend that has recently attended a wedding ceremony, the option of borrowing theirs is ideal seeing you are only going to be wearing it for one day.

The best place to search for the cheapest wedding dresses regardless of any other option is online. It gives you the chance to search a wide ranger in such little time.
