A Young Gentleman's Abusive Drinking Results In A DWI And Time In The Municipal Jail
Richard had an extremely difficult time maintaining a job. To be sure, due to his lethargy and lack of incentive, he was unemployed far more regularly than he was employed. And when he did land a job, he had an awfully difficult time getting to work in a timely manner, he frequently got less than great performance assessments, and he called off sick so frequently that he regularly got fired just a few weeks after he began working.
To no one's astonishment, one of the results of Richard's less than positive work history was the fact that he was virtually penniless almost on a daily basis. Despite Richard's less than stellar employment track record and financial negligence, conversely, somehow he made it a point to drink in a hazardous manner much of the time.
So it came as no big jolt when Richard got a fifth DWI. When he went to court, the magistrate stated to Richard that his alcohol-related conduct was shameful and, as a result, he was going to sentence Richard to serve five months in the municipal jail.
During his time behind bars, Richard was required to learn more about alcohol facts such as alcohol related consequence and alcohol deaths, about the adverse consequences of hazardous drinking, and he was required to get alcohol counseling. The magistrate highlighted the fact that unless Richard gets professional alcohol treatment and learns how to live an alcohol-free life, he will more likely than not be spending a considerable amount of time placed behind bars.
Richard stated that he understood what the judge was proclaiming but he still claimed that placement in the local jail was not the most effective ruling. The magistrate saw things from an entirely different orientation and declared that it was his professional responsibility to keep individuals off the streets who drive under the influence and who get a DWI. To authenticate this view, the judge outlined some long-standing, thoroughly researched alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency statistics and facts that emphasized some of the devastating effects that are linked to irresponsible and hazardous drinking such as alcohol related deaths.
Even though Richard grasped the fact that he drank in an abusive manner, he never thought that he was an individual who was addicted to alcohol. So it was a big surprise when Richard started to have chronic alcoholism symptoms and alcohol withdrawal symptoms roughly three hours after getting locked up in the county jail.
To treat his alcohol withdrawal symptoms in a safe and secure manner, Richard was taken to a rehabilitation center for alcohol detox and then returned to jail. While locked up in the local jail Richard was given alcohol treatment but because he received this treatment as something that was forced upon him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his irresponsible and abusive drinking.
When his time in the local jail was over, the judge without faltering told Richard that he would be under stringent observation and would be required to take periodic urine alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking situation and how he halfheartedly followed the counseling policy and procedures while in the municipal jail, the magistrate knew that it was simply a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his hazardous drinking behavior.
As the judge thought about Richard's situation, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never use their intellect and learn how to live in a mature and responsible manner.
